A bottom cleaning (surface cleaning) router bit has a wide, flat cutting face that lets you skim a surface level in a few passes. On a CNC router it is the bit for flattening a new spoilboard, truing up a slab or hogging out the floor of a wide, shallow pocket. On a hand router it does the same job in a router sled.

Known as a skimming bit, bottom cleaner and/or surface cleaner, these bits are used for levelling waste boards or hogging material stock. These can be used with handheld routers up to a max 12000RPM.

These 22mm and 30mm cutters are on a 6mm shank, which suits trim routers and small spindles. For larger diameters and replaceable inserts see the insert surface planer and spoilboard leveller.

My go to surfacing bit, stands up really well to tough Aussie Timbers like Ironbark, Redgum, Spotted Gum so much better than other surfacing bits I’ve used before and at great value.

I've been using this bit quite a lot lately, I installed a new spoil board on my X-Carve, and surfaced it, and have been surfacing some slabs also. It's a good diameter, and makes the job easy.

Cleans up and levels sacrificial sheet very well - definitely use vac-extract or you will have a dusty mess
