Utilise multiple passes to reduce tear out and chattering for a finer finish

NOTE ON TRANSITIONING TO ARDEN

You might have noticed that each router bit profile shows both Arden and Hero. Truth is that they are the same company and the only difference is the colour and name. Until all Hero stock has been exhausted, we will be supplying one or the other or both.

Best for

  • 45° chamfers and bevels on edges, guided by the bearing
  • Hardwood, softwood, MDF, particleboard, laminate, PVC and acrylic
  • Trim routers (6.35mm shank) and router tables (12.7mm shank)

Not for

  • Bevels at other angles: use a V bit on a CNC

Adam's Tip

Take multiple passes to reduce tear-out and chatter for a finer finish. Set the depth with a test piece first.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 45° chamfer bit used for?

Cutting smooth, even 45° bevels on edges, by hand in a trimmer or on a router table. The guide bearing makes template and edge work easy.

What materials can it cut?

Hardwood, softwood, MDF / HDF, particleboard, laminate / HPL, PVC and acrylic. The blades are micro-grain carbide tipped for a sharper, longer-lasting edge.

How do I get the cleanest bevel?

Take several light passes rather than one full-depth cut. This reduces tear-out and chatter.

Which shank size should I choose?

Small chamfers come on a 6.35mm (1/4") shank to suit trim routers. The larger 48–85mm diameters are on a 12.7mm (1/2") shank for router tables and bigger routers.
