Round over bits are perhaps the most used wood working bit you can have in your bits arsenal. Rounded edges give a project a softer, smoother look. The greater the radius of the round-over, the more pronounced this effect becomes.
Rounding an edge has the benefit of providing a more durable product because it won't show dents, splinter, or lose its finish as easily as a sharp corner.
Best for
- Rounding edges on CNC toolpaths, from a light R3.17 to a bold R25.42
- Tabletops, shelves and frames where a rounded edge resists dents and splintering
- Hardwood, softwood, MDF and HDF
Not for
- Following an edge by hand without a template: use the ARDEN Round Over Bit with Bearing
Adam's Tip
Use the 6.35mm (1/4") shank sizes in trim routers and the 12.7mm (1/2") shank for the large radii in a rigid CNC or router. Take the profile in two or three passes for a cleaner finish.

Frequently asked questions
What does a round over bit do?
It rounds over a square edge to a smooth radius. This gives a softer look and a more durable corner that resists dents, splintering and finish wear.
Which radius should I choose?
The bigger the radius, the more pronounced the rounded effect. Radii run from R3.17mm on a 6.35mm (1/4") shank up to R25.42mm on a 12.7mm (1/2") shank. Use the 1/2" shank sizes in a router table or a rigid CNC.
Does this bit have a bearing?
No. This is the bearing-less ARDEN round over, made for CNC toolpaths. For hand-held or router table work along an edge, use the ARDEN Round Over Bit with Bearing.
What materials is it for?
Hardwood, softwood, MDF and HDF. It is carbide tipped (TCT).

Cnc bit
The above bit is excellent Recommended Feed and speeds would be nice if they were supplied with each bit. As most are imperial and I use metric bits on my Stepcraft
