A compression bit has an up cut section at the tip and a down cut section above it, so when the tip is below the surface the two halves push chips toward the middle of the board. The result is a clean, chip-free edge on both faces, which is why compression cutters are the standard for nesting melamine, laminated board and ply on a flatbed CNC. Sizes 6.35mm (1/4") to 12.7mm (1/2") with 25mm to 44mm cutting lengths. Set the first pass depth below the up cut section (about 6mm) so the down cut flutes are engaged from the start. For higher feed rates step up to the 2+4 or 3+6 flute cutters.
