A collision-detecting torch holder is cheap insurance on a plasma table. The torch sits in a magnetic breakaway holder; if it hits tipped-up scrap or a warped sheet, the holder releases and a proximity switch stops the machine before the torch body, consumables or Z axis are damaged. Reset is a matter of sitting the torch back on its magnets.

Adam's Tip
Wire the three NC proximity switches in series to your controller's probe or e-stop input, and test that a light knock stops the machine before you cut.
